This is slowly becoming a blog about MJ
I just noticed that damn near all of the post have been about MJ since he died...this is no exception :) As some of you might know..i have thought about starting an annual Michael Jackson Convention (like the Star Wars stans have every year) and recently I got the opportunity to share my ideas with a member of the Jackson family (in Gary, IN).
After seeing all these different MJ tributes in different parts of the country..i thought WHY NOT put together an event, CONVENTION, where MJ fans come together and celebrate. If Stars Wars fans can then I KNOW we can lol. Im hoping that they like my ideas..here's what I sent over...
Ideas for Michael JAckson Convention 2010
Ideal dates: August 29th and 30th 2010
2-day convention targeted at Michael Jackson fans from around the world. Will charge for admission roughly between 60-100 dollars (depending on venue rental and other expenses.) Half of proceeds raised will be donated to charity of choice as chosen by the Jackson family in honor of Michael. A percentage of proceeds will also go back to the city of Gary to help fund various Jackson family projects for the city (25%)
Day 1
the first day will consist of the already established Michael Jackson day as established by the Jackson family of Gary IN. (thats if the convention is allowed to be put on in conjunction with this event which I think will attract more fans and would be able to be promoted nationally as well as internationally through fanclubs, forums, fansites, etc). Also a tribute show/concert that would feature known and well-known acts. Other activity ideas could include an attractions tour (visiting spots the Jackson 5 played/frequented while in Gary), kareoke performances put on by fans(a way to get the fans involved by having them perform their favorite Jackson tunes), dance competition (similar to "America's Best Dance Crew". have dance groups from across the world sign up to perform in the conventions competition, MJ inspired of course. I assume we would have to charge the groups to enter the competition.) Other activities include The candle light vigil, costume contest, etc.
Day 2
the second day of the convention will be held in a seperate venue. On this day guest speakers, art shows, MJ collection exhibits (people who have large MJ collections could come and display it. Vendors will also be available where people can add pieces to their collections), Magic shows, poetry slams, etc.Give charities the opportunity to set up booths at the convention and give fans to opportunity to donate. (preferrably those that Michael supported personally..i know there was many!). MJ trivia games where fans can participate in and win prizes. I would also like to have a gift, presented to the Jackson family on behalf of the fans (signed by participants of the convention). The gift would be given yearly to the family as a way for the fans to show their appreciation and love for Michael and the jackson family. Part of the ticket sales could be used to purchase the gift.
Let me know what you think..i will definitely be anticipating the reply :)

Happy Birthday Michael Joseph Jackson

Today is the day that WOULD HAVE BEEN Michael's 51st birthday. Like many of his wonderful fans, I will be celebrating Michael's life, music, and legacy today by heading back to his childhood home in Gary, IN where they will be having a block party/bbq type thing...HELLA EXCITED! I'll be sure to take lots of pics like always. My friend that I met at the memorial will be riding with me...THIS TIME we are prepared and have lots of goodies to bring to the house as well as candles.
I urge everyone to do something today to celebrate Michael today. He DESERVES to be celebrated...
Ill be back with pics and much more from Gary...stay tuned!

Happy 30th Anniversary Off The Wall!!!

Off The Wall -August 10th, 1979 [wikipedia]
Tracklisting
1. "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough"
2. "Rock with You"
3. "Workin' Day and Night"
4. "Get on the Floor"
5. "Off the Wall"
6. "Girlfriend"
7. "She's out of My Life"
8. "I Can't Help It"
9. "It's the Falling in Love" (with Patti Austin)
10. "Burn This Disco Out"
First of all...OFF THE WALL is and forever will be not only my favorite Michael Jackson album...but my favorite album ever in life. This album is just too great for words and for me it holds a special place in my heart because this was the album that introduced me to Michael Jackson. Even though the album came out in 1979...this is the album that I
a)use to go to sleep listening to EVERY SINGLE night
b)would replay each song over and over so I could write down the words
c)constantly singing in falsetto around the house
d)asked my mother to buy a disco ball and literally tried to reenact "Rock With You" video (i think that damn disco ball is still at my mother's house)
e)learned the dance to DSTYGE (the break down part lol)
f)wrote up a video concept for Off The Wall (scarily enough it was something like Billie Jean lol)
and i can go on but u get the picture lol. Every MJ has a special something about it. Off The Wall was the album that just by listening to it you can tell that Michael was extremely happy at this point. This is the album that I like to say was the first time MJ got to do "him" No Jacksons, No Motown...just him creating and writing the music that he wanted to do with absolute total freedom. The outcome of that was an album that would become the blueprint and really set the tone for the rest of his career. A question I like to ask all the time is would Thriller really have been that great if Michael never made Off The Wall? I THINK NOT!
Even 30 freaking years later...Off The Wall COMPLETELY shyts on anything thats out today. Every song on that album is just so amazing and Off the Wall is one of those records that u just put in and press play and enjoy the ride! Rock With You is my favorite song of all-time while Off The Wall is my favorite Michael Jackson song [people ask me how is that possible all the time but I don't know it just is lol) and as you can see...both songs come from this amazing album.
If anyone out there is casual fan or not a fan at all of MJ and looking to cross over to the good life that is being an MJ fan..i suggest you start with this amazing body of work. It's how I started and look at me today :-D

*-MJ Personal Favorites
^-She's Not Famous Recommended
So since I have been listening to Michael non-stop since he passed (that is my way of coping...I miss him so much!), I decided to put together a collection of Michael's music together for my blog to pay tribute. I have a pretty extensive collection of MJ material that ranges all the way back to his days in J5, so I thought that I'd share it.
In this mixtape you WILL NOT find Thriller, Beat It, or Billie Jean...not because I don't like the songs because I love EVERYTHING MJ has put out...but those songs are for the casual MJ fan and they are songs you could probably recite in your sleep. I'm hoping that this mixtape will make people that were once casual Michael Jackson fans, appreciate his music and art, and dig deeper than Thriller.
I've included songs that were some of Michael's personal favorites (as well as a couple of mine), some autobiographical tunes (songs that MJ CLEARLY wrote when he was pissed lol) and a slew of unreleased material that may or may not be RARE. ( I honestly don't know if they are rare or not but I know i've had them for years). I've also added some bonus tracks which include demo versions of We Are the World and State of Shock (the original version with Freddie Mercury before they got Mick Jagger for the Victory album) and live medley's from his Bad and HIStory Tours.
Anyway..I hope you all enjoy the mixtape! I have plenty more material so if anyone is looking for MJ to add to their collection feel free to hit me up and ill be more than happy to be your supplier :)
